Why This Recipe Works

Prompt blotting limits how far liquid spreads. Pet-accident products labeled as enzymatic contain specific enzymes and contact-time directions; vinegar, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide do not become an enzyme cleaner when combined. Use one compatible labeled product rather than layering household chemicals.

Instructions

  1. Blot fresh stains: For fresh accidents, blot up as much liquid as possible first. Don’t rub - this spreads the stain.

  2. Check the material: Read the carpet, upholstery, mattress, or floor instructions before adding water or cleaner.

  3. Use cool water only if permitted: Dampen rather than saturate, then blot from the outside edge inward.

  4. Choose one labeled product: Select a cleaner approved for both the soil and material, spot test it, and follow its dose, contact time, extraction, and rinsing directions.

  5. Dry fully: Blot or extract moisture as directed, ventilate the area, and keep people and animals away until the surface is dry and the product label says it may be used again.

  • For old or repeated stains: Deep contamination can reach carpet backing, padding, subfloor, or upholstery filling; consider a professional cleaner.
