A simple cleaner for uncoated household glass when the manufacturer permits vinegar and rubbing alcohol. Do not use it on screens, tint, or treated glass.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup White vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Rubbing alcohol (70%) (Helps with fast evaporation)
  • 2 cups Water

Why This Recipe Works

Dilute vinegar can loosen mineral film while rubbing alcohol can help lift some oily residue and evaporate quickly. Coatings, tint films, frames, and nearby stone may not tolerate the mixture, so the product instructions control.

Instructions

  1. Check the glass instructions: Confirm that vinegar and 70% isopropyl alcohol are allowed for the glass, coating, frame, and surrounding material.

  2. Combine liquids: Add water, vinegar, and rubbing alcohol to a labeled spray bottle away from heat or flame.

  3. Spot test: Apply to a cloth and test a hidden edge. Check the dry result before continuing.

  4. Apply and wipe: Spray onto a lint-free cloth rather than the glass, then wipe and buff dry. Keep liquid out of frames, seals, and openings.

Tips & Variations

  • Use a clean lint-free cloth: Paper and dirty cloths can leave fibers, ink, or residue.
  • Work out of direct heat: Rapid drying can make residue harder to remove.
  • Two-cloth method: Use one damp cloth to clean, one dry cloth to buff.

  • Ventilate well: Rubbing alcohol fumes can be strong in enclosed spaces.
  • Keep away from flames: Rubbing alcohol is flammable. Don’t use near open flames or while smoking.
  • Avoid tint and coatings: Use only the cleaner specified by their manufacturer.

Storage

Keep the labeled bottle tightly closed, away from heat, flame, children, and pets. Make a small batch and discard it if its appearance or odor changes.
