Powerful Bathroom Scrub
A tough-on-grime scrubbing paste for sinks, tubs, and tile. Cuts through soap scum and hard water stains naturally.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Baking soda
- 1/4 cup Liquid castile soap
- 2 tablespoons Hydrogen peroxide (3%) (For whitening power)
- 10 drops Essential oil (Tea tree or eucalyptus recommended)
Why This Recipe Works
Baking soda provides gentle abrasive action that scrubs away grime without scratching. Castile soap lifts grease and dirt while hydrogen peroxide whitens and disinfects. The essential oils add antibacterial properties and a fresh scent.

Mix dry and wet: In a bowl, combine baking soda with castile soap. Stir until you get a paste-like consistency.

Add hydrogen peroxide: Stir in hydrogen peroxide. The mixture may fizz slightly - this is normal.

Add essential oils: Mix in your chosen essential oils. Tea tree is excellent for mold-prone areas.

Apply and scrub: Apply paste to surfaces with a sponge or brush. Let sit for 5-10 minutes on tough stains, then scrub and rinse.
Tips & Variations
- For tough soap scum: Let the paste sit for 15-20 minutes before scrubbing.
- Grout cleaner: Apply with an old toothbrush and scrub grout lines.
- Mold fighter: Increase tea tree oil to 20 drops for extra antifungal power.
- Make it fresh: This works best when made fresh due to the hydrogen peroxide.
Safety Notes
- Never mix with vinegar: Using vinegar with castile soap creates a greasy mess. Use separately.
- Wear gloves: Prolonged contact with baking soda can dry out skin.
- Don’t use on stone: The abrasive and alkaline nature can damage natural stone.
- Hydrogen peroxide bleaches: Test on colored grout first.
Storage
Best used immediately. If storing, keep in an airtight container for up to 1 week. Hydrogen peroxide loses effectiveness over time.
